Ditengah siraman cahaya emas matahari
mungkin senja
aku dan dirimu berlari
genggaman ini. aroma nostalgia
tak terjelaskan, sedih dan menenangkan
aku memandang dirimu, aku dan dirimu tersenyum lembut
terengah-engah dan duduk bersebelahan
gelombang perasaan tak terjelaskan
menengadah, wajah kami menghadap langit

In 2008, I joined Facebook. I decided to use this forum to educate myself about people in other countries, specifically in Arab countries. It was an Egyptian woman who first offered me her hand in friendship. I grew to admire and love the Egyptian people. In 2009, I wrote a poem for the anniversary of 9/11. Since then, I have met Arabs in other countries, too. When I read my poem today, I feel that all Arabs are represented by Mother Egypt in it.

People in love have similar feelings with others experiencing the same joy no matter their age. When that love lasts into old age, the feelings often endure.
Let me give you the gift of time
As you move your lips on mine.
Our feelings still resemble two youths who'd touch, then tremble
Under springtime skies at night in woods of pine.

Such true love
And so it was
The heart was cut
The blood let
And knew this thing
That never was
Of fresh milk skin
And Innocents
Quaver ascent
Euphoric rise
Beyond the under sky

Have you ever been afraid to write?
Afriaid from what will come from inside you
Afraid of the insecurities that rise up
(Is it good enough?)
Afraid nothing will ever come again
Afraid you'll be stuck forever in endless torment and frustration
Afraid this isn't the path for you
Afraid you'll have to start all over again
Just afraid.

While you go about your daily lives just stop for a moment and think of the wives,
Our men fight in lands far away where the sun is so hot but they are never forgot,
We wait by the phone or for a letter even a text as that is much better!!
To know that our men are safe and sound, It really is hard when they are not around,
The constant fear they may never return from the land far away where the sun fiercely burns,
I miss my daddy you hear them say not just once but every day, he will be home soon is my reply wishing I had a wand to make time fly,
Crossing the days till that soldier of mine drops his bags by the door so we can worry no more,
The days feel like years since you went away you are on my mind every min of everyday,
So think of the wives as you go about your day the burden we carry doesnt go away

It’s not the grey but the yellow we adorn
And not really the heart but thoughts we explore
And so we flit and flicker and fondle
Fingers ruffle the water of our shores
Knowing the storms will wet our face
Yesterday’s trace our failure and glory
The campfire forces forest shadows to obey
Noises in the dark begin beckoning us, its prey
White gas lantern search for glow back eyes
But it’s the dark calling out our little white lies

Tender flesh in a patients' gown
Rests in psychiatric limbo.
A loosely worn skull cap
And a crude dispostion.
All I need.
She smiles;
Those dingy walls glow a brilliant offwhite.
The room smells of rebirth.
And desperation is two halls down.

cool air clicks sharp teeth
and grins as it rushes past-
nipping our earlobes
raindrops and acorns,
revelatory pellets,
pop on the tin roof
night sky in gridlock.
cars brighter than brightest stars-
a celestial map.
“I hope that it comes,”
the uncertain man worried
as it passed him by.

at an old table in the bright kitchen of my one-bedroom apartment
I had many things.
an epiphany was not among them.
suspended in a state of perpetual stop-motion animation,
fits of stops and starts,
expecting all questions would be answered -

Sugar my soul
on the empty streets
everlasting kisses
throw from a distance
The moon gives the sun
both warmth and coolness
never separate
never together
