a burnt out computer sits on the floor in the middle of the room. square eyes rotate fixing on objects through the gloom. you have been in here so long that you think you see her even though you know she's gone.  You have had enough rush to the door. And stop. reach for the handle, but the passion has already dropped.

It is early morning.  Sarah Collins awakens slowly as though her consciousness is picking its way through a dense thicket of kudzu.  She has no reason to be awake at this hour.  She has no reason to be awake for all the rest of the day.  It is a Sunday.  She has nothing to do, no place to go and no good reason to abandon the warmth of her thickly quilted, cotton comforter.

Mark bundled his client’s two scrawny Chihuahuas into the back of his white transit van and feigning a big, bright smile, drove off.

The fumes of primer lingering from last night left a thick sour fog in the air that launched my thoughts into a hole of nearly forgotten memories that had been piling up in my brains recycle bin. It's strange how something as insignificant as an odor can dig so many things out of our closets we had once forgotten existed.
