They tell you not to gamble

Then they make you take a job

Where each paycheck’s one more roll of the dice
Best treat your bosses kindly
Or they’ll surely put you out
And you know they won’t think about it twice

All of life‘s a gamble it’s a wicked game of chance
But

As the sun sets in the horizon

My body starts to tremble

Never did I think you would grow

To be an iconic symbol

The setting sun takes me back to

Stark white eyes bulge from little black faces

Sharply outlined orbs of milk

And Haitian children seem to ask

Why

Are

You

Here

Now?

Sooty charcoal coats their hair

Taupe grit sticks thick on every crevice every indent on every body

Swollen stomachs with anxious teeth perched inside

Still waiting

My fate was sensed as a youth

the ways ot the world:

of sin

of starvation

of poverty.

I grew into an awakening

to dedication for:

the poor

the hopeless

the starving.

Always striving

my grail full

Listen close for the answer lies

in the heart

and the mind

the pleas of the sun when it hides

out amongst the starry skies

horizons of clouds

a melancholy sight

Through this disguise

the truth you will find.

Then come back to me

and tell me no lies.

Someday all the people who take such good care of themselves who eat the right foods who avoid nasty habits who look both ways before crossing the street. People who floss. Someday everyone of them will be dead. "Small comfort." he thinks taking a final drag on his cigarette.

Poetry is the writer's drug of choice

For words light fires in uncalculated multitudes of minds across great virgin plains atop erect eternal mountains deep in claustrophobic oceans on the paradise of skin-hued sandy beaches

Do you write poetry?

The honest poor are like the surface of the earth the firm foundation on which cornerstones

He put me small into the ground

Tiny imperfect strong and round

Beneath I burrowed until I was gone

To escape the hunger of a wandering fawn

I waited and waited for the rain to come

Finally! I said can I have some?

I felt it surround me

The day you walked into my life i knew you were the one and even though you caused me so much pain I still had so much fun.

Your love cut my skin like a piece of glass and even though the blood has stopped I'm still waiting for the pain to pass.

I'm all alone no one there when I get in all by myself no one to ask me how I've been it feels so empty my voice echoes off the wall It's so cold it is Spring but it feels like Fall.

I should be strong it's not like you've gone away

To all the many wishes
I cast to the sea all the forgotten yarns
of history unraveled
lay spread on the bottom seabed.
Sandglass footprints of who
he was sunk along the shore
billions of stars etch the pebbles
that went footloose.

The fishermen yachts ten
