In Calgary it can get very depressing

Leaves dropped without reason

As moments of life pass scattered in waves of collective treason

And frigid winds ran down backlit streets

Erasing lone footprints from trails traveled long ago.

And

Light arose from silence

Brightening darkness with no regard for

I wish I had words to tell how the light filters through the tree branches
or how quickly my anchored soul takes flight from this acknowledgment.

I wish I knew how to capture moments of contentment and store them up like dried lavender
pulling them out when I need the scent of

Emancipation

I was at 652 when the votes rolled down like a mighty river

Old Man River

Let us gather at the river where bright angel feet have trod

Between the brats and the coleslaw

Hot dogs lie limp in their pinky juice the old familiar chip and dip

And beer

Before the murders I had a cup of tea

I thought of things I’d do with the insurance money

I took the kids to her mother’s and said goodbye

Now I’d established my alibi

Push Push Push my buttons
Surely you will see
Push Push Push my buttons
And everything will come out of me
I am already at my wits end
You're about to push me over the edge
I swear I will turn around
And push you over that ledge

I just want to unload
Every

The aroma of a fuzz guitar
is what I am craving now
The sun is hovering above
My enthusiasm is ebbing
I need a kick start alarm
I need a smile inducer
Give me something loud
Give me something raw
Give me some honesty
Give me rock and soul
I need a heavy handed push

Rumble stones roll afar

Misty look across the desert land

Crumble lifting upon a star

Hunted with guns in hands

Avail enemies of all

Wishing death upon all

Cruelty and unbinding falls

Plentiful dreams of innocents and dancehalls

Sleepless dreams to defeat

Stones roll afar

Bang from the barrels

Victimized apart

Victimized of what

It's 12:43a.m.,

Calm with a sin of night

Four dead bodies,

And not a crook in sight

12:45a.m.,

The cops seize the bay

Damn, reporters and detectives

Work till the light of day

Who would do such a crime

Such a bloodful scene

Not a witness in sight,

This was done too clean

Now 1:30a.m.,

Damn, reporter unleashes the tale

Murder, murder

At a quarter past twelve

Bodies!

Hundreds and hundreds of them

Nice or scary and slightly hairy

Walking running crawling on the ground

to follow you around

Over or under each other

Snakes

Coiled and knotted bothered

by the lack of direction

and cold reception

of leaders too busy climbing

to the top of the pile

A Struggle Towards Carelessness

We drive through our city and marvel
that it is ours. Everything is unlimited promise.

There is no way to distinguish faith from hope: both
equally wasteful as far as emotions go. As if
any emotion isn't wasteful. Being human is
fucking terrible. If I was born a tree I would not
know

I couldn't love this weather more. Iced tea! A
hidden creek that only we and half the city have found!
A Frank O'Hara poem! I wish to taste oranges
when we kiss.

Everyone is in the same places. All the good
rocks are taken. The strangers meet over and over.
The pattern of

"Come " said a fat bumblebee
"Come follow me to this oak tree."
I followed as off he buzzed
for no other reason than because
this tree also called my name.

A strong trunk supported sturdy
branches long and burly.
Two squirrels used it as a gym
entertaining both me and them
