Would love to hear what you have to say, after all this is your country!

Okay here is my two cents worth. The American people today, are the least taxed as per capita in the country's fine history. "Middle-income Americans are now paying federal taxes at or near historically low levels, according to the latest available data. That’s true whether it comes to their federal income taxes or their total federal taxes." -Marr/Brunet Center on Budget and Policy Priorities 4/14/2010 During the Clinton Administration, pay-as-you go budget rules were what wiped out the deficit. But, on 12/2003 Bush signed into law a Medicare reform bill that broke severely from that tradition to the tune of 400 billion dollars. That was just the start. Along with 2 simultaneous wars it was no wonder the deficit ballooned. "Congress agreed Thursday to revive the pay-as-you-go budget rules that helped wipe out massive deficits and balance the budget during the Clinton administration." - Montgomery - Washington Post 2/5/2010 These two points being made, I have asked myself what is the true complaint behind the Tea Party movement. if it's really taxes, history shows we are relatively spoiled. We want our social security, medicare, medicade, but with a mounting deficit, and aging population, any economist worth his salt will tell you taxes will have to increase. Initially on the wealthiest 2%, but eventually to balance out, its gonna hit all of us. I am venturing to think that there is a less noble cause célèbre among these misguided folk. Elements of xenofobia, insecurity, racism, (yes I said it) nostalgia, and just plain anger are allowing their ears to listen to half truths and outright lies to drive the country back in a direction that just didnt work. I am looking forward to contrasting views. -AA
