About Us

(A message from the founder of Hennen's Observer)

Welcome!
Thank you for reading and hopefully contributing to Hennen's Observer.  Let me give you a brief overview of who I am and also our cultural news magazine and website.  My name is Joshua Hennen, the editor of the magazine Hennen's Observer, which is published monthly and available for subscription. The lead article will usually be written by me and will deal with interesting and sometimes unusual aspects of human culture that are rarely given close inspection.  This will be followed up with poetry, prose, and artwork from you!
This endeavor is a collaborative effort so please feel free to recommend changes to improve the quality and functionality of the website or magazine by sending me an email (
admin@hennensobserver.com).  Finally, good luck and I look forward to reading your work!

Truly,
Joshua Hennen

If you can imagine a publication that exists midway between a literary journal and a newspaper then you have Hennen’s Observer. Our lead news articles are factual like a newspaper’s but described from a literary viewpoint. Also, the subject matter of these pieces serves to reveal cultures or aspects thereof that are normally neglected by mainstream media. To many, it will be news in that they have heard it for the first time. Of course, the short stories, poetry, and satire are just as you would find in a quality literary journal.

Hennen’s Observer has two parts: the website and the magazine. First, the website is a free forum for everyone that wishes to submit his or her material. “Everything goes” in this arena, so don’t be afraid to share your work, no matter how edgy. It goes without saying that the online material will be of varying genre and quality. Second, the monthly magazine will include well written articles and literature of nearly all genre from the online submitters. If you happen to be one of those, we will compensate you for the rights to publish your work. We currently pay $75 for poems and $.10 per word for short stories. In addition, the magazine includes artwork, cartoons, literature, and pictures not available online.
